Senior friendly? Don’t just say it. Show it.

Your destination welcomes senior travellers. Can you prove it?

Mature travellers plan carefully and look for reassurance before they book. An MMI certificate tells them, at a glance, that you’ve thought about what they need.

Apply by 15 December 2026 to be considered for the first monthly Index, published on 1 January 2027.

The first monthly Index

Key dates.

The first monthly Index is published on 1 January 2027 and updated every month after that. Our method was finalised in October 2026, and applications opened as soon as this process was complete.

  1. October 2026Method finalised and published in the MMI Charter
  2. November to 15 December 2026Applications open for the first monthly Index
  3. 1 January 2027The first monthly Index is published
  4. From February 2027The Index is updated every month, and newly certified destinations join it

Applications received by 15 December are assessed and independently checked in time for the first list. Applications are welcome all year round: later applications are included in the next monthly update, once assessed and if the score qualifies.

Be one of the first aboard. Every great journey has its first passengers. Destinations certified before 1 January 2027 are our Early Boarders: the pioneers who stepped forward before the first Index existed and put their name to a score when nobody was yet asking. They take their place on launch day, and the title stays with them for good. Nobody can earn it after that date. Applications close on 15 December.

Certificates issued in November and December 2026 are valid for the whole of 2027.

How it works

Four steps. No mystery.

Apply online

Tell us about your organisation and show us your destination. It takes about ten minutes.

Choose your service and pay

€295 (about US$330) for priority assessment within 5 working days, or €250 (about US$280) for standard assessment (allow at least 10 working days). A tourism organisation can name up to 3 towns, each assessed on its own: €145 (priority) or €100 (standard) for each town after the first. You pay securely by card when you apply.

We assess your destination

Our researchers assess your destination from public sources, under the same published rules as every other.

Get your result

Score 75 or more, with no Health & Safety weakness, and your certificate and seal for the year are included.

The certification standard

75out of 100, with no Health & Safety indicator below 3.

Every indicator is scored from 1 to 5, and a total of 75 means a destination averages between 3.5 and 4 across all 10 of them: good to very good on everything that matters to mature travellers. The Health & Safety minimum is there because no amount of sunshine makes up for poor emergency care. The standard was fixed on 30 October 2026, before any scoring began, and applies to every destination alike.

A destination that falls short receives its full report, showing what held it back. After three months it may apply for reassessment at 75% of the original fee, giving it time to put things right.
